Yet a big change is about to take place: iDEAL is to be absorbed into the European payment platform Wero. What exactly does this transition entail, when will it happen and what do you, as a merchant, need to arrange practically?<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46f9a18 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"46f9a18\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-12a1f0a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"12a1f0a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><b>Why the move to Wero?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The move to Wero is a strategic choice of the European Payments Initiative (EPI). In this initiative, 16 major European banks (including ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank) are working together on a single uniform European payment standard.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where iDEAL stops at the border, Wero continues. This makes it easier for you as a merchant to sell outside the Netherlands with a payment method customers trust.<\/span><\/p><h3><b>The timeline: when does what happen?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The transition will take place in phases:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>January 2026 (Now):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Start of co-branding phase. You will see the combined <\/span><b>iDEAL | Wero<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> logo appearing more and more often. For consumers, the payment flow is not changing at the moment.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>April 2026:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The first transactions are actually being processed through the new Wero infrastructure.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>End 2026:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Wero brand will become more prominent. New features such as purchase protection and \u2018buy now, pay later\u2019 will be integrated directly into the wallet.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>End 2027:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The name iDEAL will disappear for good. From now on, Wero will be the only brand name on payment buttons.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><h3><b>As a merchant, what do you need to arrange practically?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While much of the transition is done through your Payment Service Provider (PSP), there are some things you need to be keen on yourself:<\/span><\/p><ol><li><b> Check your Payment Service Provider (PSP)<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parties such as Mollie or Multisafepay are currently preparing the transition. Keep an eye on your email for updates on new terms and conditions or settings to accept in your dashboard.<br \/><br \/><\/span><\/li><li><b> Update your payment provider's extension<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For users of platforms such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecomwise.com\/en\/platformen\/magento\/\"><b>Magento<\/b><\/a><b> or <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecomwise.com\/en\/platformen\/shopware\/\"><b>Shopware<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it is essential to keep your payment provider's extensions up-to-date. The latest versions will support the new logos and updated checkout flow.<br \/><br \/><\/span><\/li><li><b> Replace the iDEAL logo with the iDEAL Wero logo<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In early 2026, it's time to refresh the visuals in your webshop. Think of the logo in the footer of your website or on your information pages.
