OpenAI has teamed up with Stripe to launch the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP). A new development that could fundamentally change the way customers shop online. Through the ‘Instant Checkout’ feature, users can buy products directly in ChatGPT, without leaving chat and without any extra steps.
Important to know: Instant Checkout is currently only active in the US for US users and merchants. No launch date is yet known for Europe, but OpenAI has indicated that expansion to other regions is on the roadmap.
What does this mean for (B2B) web shops?
Until now, online findability has mainly revolved around Google, Bol.com and Amazon. But the playing field is shifting rapidly. Google searches are decreasing, while more and more people are putting their queries to AI tools like ChatGPT.
With the arrival of ACP, ChatGPT becomes not only an information channel, but also a sales channel. For webshop owners, this offers opportunities, but also requires preparation.

Less reliance on large platforms
ACP can mean a new route to customers for small and medium-sized web shops, without dependence on large marketplaces. A customer searching for “industrial parts for warehouse equipment” via ChatGPT, for example, can be shown your products directly, including price, stock and a buy button.
This makes it crucial to ensure clear, structured product information. ChatGPT uses this data to determine which products are relevant and in what order they are shown.
What can you do right now?
Even if ACP is not yet active in Europe, you can already prepare your webshop:
- Putting product feed in order The product feed is an essential part of ACP. You don't need PSP or checkout modifications for this. You can pick up this part right now:
- Provide structured product data (descriptions, specifications, prices, stock)
- Add unique SKUs and product features
- Keep your product feed up to date (ChatGPT can process updates up to every 15 minutes)
For the full ACP implementation (checkout and payment), you are dependent on your Payment Service Provider and adjustments to your checkout are required. These components will not be fully usable until ACP becomes active in Europe.
- Preparing for integration
For Magento, there is already an open-source module available that supports ACP. This module was developed by Magebit and is compatible with Hyva.

Why this matters
AI is fundamentally changing how customers search and buy. Whereas Google was the starting point for many years, that role is now shifting to AI assistants. These tools understand natural language, learn from preferences and offer personalised recommendations.
Webshops that organise their product data well now will soon benefit from a head start. ChatGPT will especially recommend those web shops that present their products clearly, reliably and completely.
