During MeetMagento NL in November 2024, Hyvä Commerce was announced. Recently, the product has been available in early access. Developed by the team behind the Hyvä theme, Hyvä Commerce is positioned as a logical next step within the Magento landscape. In this post, I share what exactly it is, how it compares to existing solutions and what our first experiences are from a technical and management perspective.
What is Hyvä Commerce?
Hyvä Commerce is a set of extensions on top of Magento (Open Source) in combination with the Hyvä theme. The aim is to provide functionalities missing from the standard version of Magento, but often needed in practice.
Examples of features that are already part or on the roadmap:
- A new, functioning pagebuilder
- Image optimisation and editing
- Customer segmentation
- Merchandising category
You can also (partly) achieve such functionality via separate extensions, customisation or by switching to Adobe Commerce. However, that brings challenges in terms of maintenance, performance and compatibility. What sets Hyvä Commerce apart is that everything is developed by a single team with clear architecture choices and a focus on performance and simplicity.

Status and experience so far
In the current early access version, functionality is still limited. The new pagebuilder is currently the most concrete feature. We tested it in a demo environment and the impression is positive:
- The interface is fast and intuitive
- Live previews (including shareable URLs) work well
- Versioning of content is in place (including rollback functionality)
- Adding components works via a clear drag-and-drop interface
It is also easy for developers to add or extend components. In our initial tests, it was easy to make modifications without a lot of development involved.
The roadmap is publicly available and shows considerable expansion in the coming months. View the Hyva roadmap here.
Our vision at Ecomwise
At Ecomwise, we see Hyvä Commerce, combined with our own B2B template based on Hyvä, as a solid foundation for new Magento projects. We have now made our B2B template suitable for Hyvä Commerce within which we can quickly do implementations with the new functionalities.
For merchants, this means we can deliver faster, rely less on separate modules, and offer a CMS experience more in line with what people are used to from other platforms (such as WordPress or more commercial solutions).

In conclusion
Hyvä Commerce is still under development, but what is there now looks thoughtful and robust. The direction is clear: less complexity, better UX and more out-of-the-box functionality for Magento Open Source. We will continue to follow it closely and will actively test and integrate it into our projects in the coming months.
Please let us know if you are interested in a demo or sparring about deploying Hyvä Commerce within your project. We would be happy to help you on your way.
